13.7% positivity rate as 801 new Covid cases reported


The Ministry of Health has announced 801 news cases of Covid-19, from 5,850 samples tested in the last 24 hours.

The new cases bring the total caseload in the country to 195,111 and the positivity rate to 13.7%.

In the new cases the youngest is a one-year-old baby while the oldest is 98 years.

Cumulative deaths rose to 3,826 as 15 deaths were reported, all from facility record audits for April, June and July, 2021.

A total of 293 patients have recovered from the disease, 322 from the Home-based Isolation and Care Program while 159 are from various health facilities countrywide.

Total recoveries now stand at 184,461.

Another 1,248 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 3,862 are under the Home-based Isolation and Care program.

Some 135 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 38 of whom are on ventilatory support and 70 on supplemental oxygen, while 27 others are under observation.

A total of 356 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen, 320 of them in general wards and 36 in High Dependency Units (HDU).

The news cases are distributed in the counties as follows; Nairobi 319, Mombasa 77, Kilifi 71, Nakuru 60, Uasin Gishu 45, Kiambu 36, Makueni 28, Machakos 17, Siaya 12, Kajiado, Nyandarua and Kericho 11 each, and  Homa Bay 10 cases.

Nyeri, Taita Taveta, Murang’a and Kisumu 9 each, Kirinyaga 8, Embu, Laikipia, Lamu and Garissa 5 cases each, Bungoma, Kwale and Turkana 4 cases each, Migori, Nandi and Nyamira 3 cases each, Kisii and Kitui 2 each, while Narok, Baringo, Bomet and Marsabit recorded a case each.
