ODM leader Raila Odinga on Friday caused a stir at Konza Technopolis while addressing President Uhuru Kenyatta’s delegation at the unveiling of the modern city’s Data Center. While dismissing media reports he is giving conditions to his NASA colleagues, Mr. Odinga said he and the Wiper Leader were engaged in negotiations to make NASA even bigger and was inviting the Head of State to a part of the opposition outfit.

”There have been too much propaganda in the media. That Raila is giving his colleagues in NASA conditions. I am not giving Steve any conditions. We are talking and we are going to be together. We are going to come together as NASA your excellency and we invite you to also become a part of NASA,” the ODM leader said.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is currently on two day tour of Ukambani region.

On Friday, the Head of State commissioned two key projects at the Konza Technopolis, signaling Government’s commitment to the completion of the country’s first smart city.

The President, who was on an inspection tour of infrastructure projects implemented by the Government and partners at the technopolis, inaugurated an eight-storey headquarters of Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA).

Accompanied by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru among other senior Government officials, President Kenyatta also opened the National Data Centre located at the Konza Technopolis.

The ultra-modern office block will provide KoTDA staff and partners a conducive on-site working environment to support accelerated roll-out of the techno city while the data centre will offer reliable infrastructure and business-friendly services through a superior ICT backbone.

“Our quest is to be a technology disrupter, M-Pesa set the pace; may the centre that we commission today be an incubator for the next big-global technology disruption. Right here, made in Kenya for the World,” President Kenyatta said after his extensive tour of the technopolis.

When complete, the expansive Konza technology city which traverses three neighboring counties of Machakos, Makueni and Kajiado will occupy 5,000-acres of land.
