Speaking at Ragia secondary school in South Kinangop , a section of leaders from the religious group said their choice of planting trees was significant in the beliefs since, the church was started under a tree.

It is also a symbol of God’s creation where, after creating the earth, God sent the first man and woman in the Garden of Eden, where he made them supreme among all his creation.

Arch-Bishop Jeremiah Kariuki of AK-ISRAEL and Nathaniel Kagui who is also the Chairman of the Akorino Church in Nyandarua County said this was a significant moment for the church as it reflects on its transformational progress over the years.

Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia and Dedan Kimathi Foundatiom CEO Evelyn Wanjugu praised the Akorino Church for coming up with the initiative.

They pledged to donate and support the members to achieve their agenda through provision of tree seedlings.

Kimemia noted that a total of 1.5 million trees are expected to be planted by the Church’s adherents and several partners in Nyandarua alone.

Their sentiments were echoed by Mrs. Peris Njeri, a church leader who observed that over the years, the church had not focused on such an engagement despite depending so much on trees and their products even in church activities.

The initiative is meant to support commitment to plant 2million trees by 2022 as the country aims to reach the 10 per cent forest cover by next year.

The Akorino denomination is popular among the Agikuyu community in Kenya.
