Nationwide police recruitment kicks off – KBC


The nationwide police recruitment exercise of 5,000 personnel kicked off Monday morning ahead of their training at various colleges.

Inspector-General of Police Hilary Mutyambai said the recruitment for 4,700 constables and 300 cadets will only take place today at designated centres in each constituency.

The recruitment exercise was done after three years the National Police Service (NPSC) did the exercise.

According to Mutyambai, applicants recruited for the training will be bonded to serve in the police service for a minimum period of 10 years.

He said for cadets, NPS will be keen on candidates with courses in Medicine, Engineering, Forensic Science, Ballistics, Education and Law.

The recruitment also comes ahead of next year’s General Election when heavy deployment is expected.


The applicant must:

  • Be a citizen of Kenya
  • Hold a Kenya National Identity Card
  • Possess a minimum qualification of ‘D+’( Plus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination with a ‘D+’ (Plus) in either English or Kiswahili languages;
  • Be aged between 18 and 28 years for holders of KCSE Examination Certificate or its equivalent, and up to 30 years for diploma and degree holders;
  • Meets the requirements of Chapter Six of the constitution.
  • Is physically, mentally, and medically fit.
  • Has no criminal record or pending criminal charges.
  • Female candidates must not be pregnant at recruitment and during the entire training period.
