A former Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) soldier has been arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for trying to defraud two unsuspecting victims.
Washington Mutinda Mutuku was Tuesday night ambushed at Mlolongo’s Gallas Resort in Machakos County by DCI detectives and a Military Police Corporal.
The Mlolongo-based detectives who were acting on a tip-off arrested Mutuku and confiscated from him two alleged forged calling letters for the ongoing KDF recruitment and Ksh 180,000.
“The suspect had masqueraded as a senior commander in the Kenya Defense Forces, and actively in the line of duty,” the DCI said.

Investigations have since been initiated to verify the authenticity of the calling letters, their source and other accomplices that may be involved in the malpractice.
The DCI has since cautioned members of the public to beware of tricksters who may be roaming around well-armed with con tricks choreographed to swindle unsuspecting victims, especially in the ongoing KDF and oncoming NPS recruitment exercises.
“Both giving and taking bribe are illegalities that will be met with the full force of the law,” the DCI noted.
